In this unit, students research a scientific topic that interests them and then adapt the information for a public audience, following the model of Scientific American. After drafting their articles, students will work with InDesign to create a magazine layout, again using Scientific American as a design model. Students can use a template (created by Jennie Goforth in the Design Lab) as a starting place, allowing them to focus on rhetorical choice of visuals, fonts, alignment, and other design elements, rather than spend too much time learning the nuts and bolts of InDesign.
